What happened to “Wear the damn mask!”

Dear Senator Rubio,

I received your letter to be a ‘charter member’ of your re-election club. I am honored, but I am still awaiting your response to my registered letter I mailed on July 14, 2020. The letter was about “restoring confidence in the GOP/Nation.”

What does it mean to become a “charter member”? You state that it is an “invitation to serve as a critical sounding-board for me and for my family.” It is of course requesting a donation to do so. I met you on a flight from Miami to D.C. in 2012. Senator, I looked at you as a rising member of the GOP, and even told you to run for President, and I would vote for you.

Unfortunately, you and your GOP colleagues have fallen far away from the core of what this Party represents! It has become the Party of Trump — abandonment of the norms of Constitutional democracy. It has no platform, rather it values personal obedience to its current leader, more than adherence to more lasting principles or institutions. Let us review your letter that is so compelling to make me join — it is truly full of disparaging, hateful words about the Democrats, Obama, Biden and what they have/or will do to the nation. Look in the mirror senator at what Trump and the GOP have really accomplished for this nation:

- “The left will destroy everything you and I stand for;

- weaponize the IRS to target Conservatives;

- weaponize the courts…;

- weaponize the U.S. Constitution specifically the impeachment process…in attempt to reverse the outcome of the 2016 election;

- pack the Supreme Court…

You fail to see Trump and McConnell’s fingerprints on the above list? Your letter then goes on to say Democrats have made you “their #1 target.” Senator only you have made yourself such!

Getting back to why you really want me to become a charter member:

You say, “to stand by your side when it matters the most.” Senator, during this presidential election, I spoke to a number of Florida residents — now former defenders and supporters of the party, whose donations and requests for assistance were always ignored. One even labeled the party REPULICONS. You are as complicit as the rest of GOP leadership, and as removed from reality as President Trump.

You point out in your letter that as a prospective donor, I won’t just “talk-the-talk, but willing to walk-the-walk,” by rushing an emergency, one-time contribution to your campaign.

President Trump’s failure to understand the history of the federal government’s role in times of crisis has cost this nation greatly. This president and the GOP have prioritized amassing wealth over common good of the nation. Your own views that the incoming Biden Administration are totalitarians and socialists is equally as absurd and destructive. You have apparently forgotten who makes up Trumps Cabinet/Cabinet level appointees, when you mock Biden’s Ivy League educated choices. At least these incoming civil servants have the experience and expertise to hold the jobs assigned.

Senator, my county in Florida went Blue this election, and I can assure you, the state will turn blue the way you and the GOP have failed to stand up to the true values of our Constitution and its citizens who voted Trump out.

Is there hope?
